The title of Ashot Khachkalyan’s current exhibition is derived from the famous novel “A Hero of Our Time“ written by Michail Lermontov who was the most important representative of the romanticism in the Russian literature beside Alexander Pushkin. In reality Ashot Khachkalyan’s works have nothing to do with any illustrations to the novel. The artist explores here as usual such issues like Love, Luck, Happiness and many other wise things of our life. His paintings distinguish themselves by the genuineness of the plots, interesting compositions and emotional expressiveness. A preoccupation with the artwork of Max Beckmann, Paul Klee or Marc Chagall is clearly recognisable in Khachkalyan’s intensely coloured paintings.
